Seedtag has closed a $40 million Series B round led by 500 Startups and Draper Esprit, with participation from Nauta Capital and existing investors. The company says the money “will be used to accelerate growth in Europe and the U.S.”

Seedtag operates a contextual advertising platform. The company’s technology is supposed to allow publishers to insert relevant ads into their content that match user preferences and context. According to the company, it uses machine learning and AI to analyze the content of web pages, helping with ad placement.

They say they have been working with international media companies such as El Comercio, T3, MásMóvil, Diez Minutos and El Confidencial (now part of Grupo Vocento) in Spain; and with Le Soir in Belgium; and with media outfits such as TechCrunch and TechNode in the US and China respectively.
