What I'm doing now

My current status

Right now, I’m working hard on wrapping up 2023 with some final blog posts and a year-end podcast episode. As the new year approaches, I’m compiling and reflecting on some of the most notable tech industry news from 2023 and even just this past week.

On the crypto front, Ethereum saw a nice boost after Vitalik Buterin proposed simplifying its proof-of-stake model. My post on Dec 29 covers this Ethereum price surge and what it could mean for the future of the #2 crypto. Sticking with crypto and finance, Nigeria made waves by reversing its 2021 ban on cryptocurrency transactions. This is a huge deal for supporting innovation in Africa’s bustling crypto economy.

In domain name sales, we saw some record sales in 2023, including a $100 million sale of voice.com. My Dec 28 post details the year’s 20 most valuable domain sales. On the startup side, I explored creative ways SMBs and startups can use projectors to transform spaces. This post on Dec 29 provides unique ideas beyond standard presentations.

On the AI front, Apple made an unexpected move by open sourcing Ferret, its new multimodal LLM. This flew under the radar in late October, so my Dec 25 post analyzes Apple’s first big step into open source AI. Speaking of AI hype, my post on Dec 25 covers expert voices urging caution on overhyping quantum computing. The tech has amazing potential but still faces limitations.

In hardware, Microsoft has intriguing Surface upgrades in store for 2024 and beyond, including enhanced AI capabilities. My Dec 28 scoop covers these leaked Next-gen Surface plans. Additionally, Microsoft brought its Copilot coding assistant to Android as a standalone app. This surprise launch helps expand Copilot’s reach.

On the policy side, the EFF published its 2023 privacy year in review. My post on Dec 25 summarizes their ongoing fight against encryption threats in the U.S. government. In a win for privacy, decentralized social network Bluesky now allows logged-out public viewing of posts. My Dec 24 post explains this update.

These stories showcase the wide range of notable tech developments just in the past week and year. As 2023 comes to an end, I’m reflecting on these to provide valuable tech analysis and insights to readers and listeners. The year-end content will encapsulate the most important tech trends and news to understand what happened this year and what’s ahead. Now is the critical time to compile these tech stories and lessons learned. Stay tuned for the upcoming blog posts and podcast episode!
