In early 2023, Skechers Malaysia launched an epic collaboration with the globally popular anime and manga series Demon Slayer. This limited-edition collection brought together Skechers’ signature footwear styles with graphics and designs inspired by the characters and aesthetic of Demon Slayer.
The collection centered around three Skechers sneaker silhouettes decked out in Demon Slayer themes:
- D’Lites 4.0: The chunky D’Lites 4.0 silhouette was updated with vibrant colors and prints inspired by characters like flame pillar Rengoku Kyojuro. The sneakers featured air-cooled memory foam insoles for comfort.
- Stamina V3: More subtle Demon Slayer designs adorned the athletic Stamina V3, with styles referencing water pillar Tomioka Giyu’s signature look. Shock-absorbing midsoles provided cushioning.
- Global Joggers: Loud character graphics and patterns representing sound pillar Uzui Tengen covered the Global Jogger, a lightweight performance model.
In addition to the bold sneakers, the collaboration included chic Demon Slayer-themed slides and sandals like the Pop Ups and Gambix 2.0. Slides came in designs featuring popular characters Tanjiro Kamado, his sister Nezuko, and their compatriots Zenitsu Agatsuma and Inosuke Hashibira.
Apparel was also a major part of this launch. T-shirts for both men and women covered all the fan-favorites, with graphic prints of Tanjiro, Nezuko, the Demon Slayer Corps Hashira and more. The collection also included Demon Slayer bags, hats, socks and other accessories letting fans show off their love for the series.
The Skechers x Demon Slayer collection launched first in Malaysia, with a special pop-up store at Pavilion Bukit Jalil running from February to May 2023. Fans could shop the limited-edition merchandise and immerse themselves in Demon Slayer through special photo areas.
Following the hype of the pop-up, Skechers made the Demon Slayer collection available via their website Skechers.com.my and partner online stores Lazada and Shopee. Select apparel and accessories were also sold at brick-and-mortar Skechers retail locations around Malaysia to extend the collaboration’s availability.
The success of this launch has sparked hopes for future capsule collections pairing anime brands with the trendy Skechers label. For 2024, rumor suggests popular series like Spy x Family or Chainsaw Man may inspire the next Skechers collab. But the Demon Slayer collection set a high bar Skechers Malaysia will have to top.
