Social Media Week is a worldwide event exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. Our mission is to help people and organizations connect through collaboration, learning and the sharing of ideas and information.
In the past few years social media has shown us the true power of what a connected society can accomplish. Over the next 10 years, 3 billion new people will connect to each other through the Internet and mobile technology- more than three times the number who are currently online.
We are living in extraordinary times and witnessing the emergence of a networked and communication abundant society. It is our belief that a society which is more connected will lead to a more enlightened, prosperous and sustainable world. Social Media Week will be the platform and global network that will help us collectively realize this potential.
Social Media Week achieves its mission of helping people and organizations connect through collaboration, learning and the sharing of ideas by focusing on three core areas:
Collaboration: We host two global conferences each year. Each event takes place simultaneously in multiple cities around the world, with thousands of individuals and organizations working together to host panels, workshops, talks and industry networking events.
Local conferences are hosted by our City Organizers, who work collaboratively with leading practitioners, industry professionals, content partners, brand partners, event hosts and local advisory boards to produce more than two thousand events across 24 cities. These local events are then connected globally through Social Media Week’s online and mobile platforms where hundreds of thousands of people in more than 180 countries can watch online via livestream and participate in a global conversation.
We also work locally, nationally and globally with leading brands to provide ways to engage with our global audience of hyper-connected influencers. We have partnered with CNN to solicit social media related stories from around the world through their iReport Platform; the Guardian, who launched a dedicated microsite which aggregated SMW content and a plugin which integrated Guardian specific content with our official mobile app; and Nokia, who partnered with us to launch SMW RealTime, an HTML 5 app which provides a real-time infographics of SMW related content and conversation around the world.
This event was sponsored by by Bear Republic Brewing Co, Vintage Wine Estates and Magic Curry Kart.
